چکیده

NIR optical tomography in endoscopic imaging geometry is a novel technique for noninvasive tissue-specific cancer detection in internal organs. The arrangement of source and fiber detection system is an important aspect in maximizing depth sensitivity in particular for axial imaging. This study demonstrates that using multiple arrays of fibers within an elliptic shaped probe increases depth resolution as compared to single array of fibers within a cylindrical shaped probe. ©2008 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (170.6960) Tomography; (100.3010) Image reconstruction techniques; (100.3190) Inverse problems

Quantitative Comparison of Analytical solution and Finite Element Method for investigation of Near-Infrared Light Propagation in Brain Tissue Model

Introduction: Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) is an imaging method in which light source and detector are installed on the head; consequently, re-emission of light from human skin contains information about cerebral hemodynamic alteration. The spatial probability distribution profile of photons penetrating tissue at a source spot, scattering into the tissue, and being released at ...

Endoscopic, rapid near-infrared optical tomography.

This is believed to be the first demonstration of near-infrared (NIR) optical tomography employed at the endoscope scale and at a rapid sampling speed that allows translation to in vivo use. A spread-spectral-encoding technique based on a broadband light source and linear-to-circular fiber bundling was used to provide endoscopic probing of many source-detector fibers for tomography as well as p...

Computational Aspects of Endoscopic (Trans-rectal) Near-infrared Optical Tomography: Initial Investigations

Endoscopic near-infrared (NIR) optical tomography is a novel approach that allows the blood-based high intrinsic optical contrast to be imaged for the detection of cancer in internal organs. In endoscopic NIR tomography, the imaging array is arranged within the interior of the medium as opposed to the exterior as seen in conventional NIR tomography approaches. The source illuminates outward fro...

Near-infrared light propagation in an adult head model. II. Effect of superficial tissue thickness on the sensitivity of the near-infrared spectroscopy signal.

It is important for near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) and imaging to estimate the sensitivity of the detected signal to the change in hemoglobin that results from brain activation and the volume of tissue interrogated for a specific source-detector fiber spacing. In this study light propagation in adult head models is predicted by Monte Carlo simulation to investigate the effect of the superfic...
